Sebastian’s new book–Arctica: The Vanishing North  is commercially available in Europe today. The book will be available in the US September 15th, with pre-orders available on Amazon or here

Representing ten years of travel in the Arctic spanning Greenland, Alaska, Northern Canada and Norway, not to speak of the Arctic sea ice on the way to the North Pole, Arctica: The Vanishing North is a visual testament of the far north. Contributors include Sir Richard Branson, who penned the foreword, Mayor Eric Garcetti, Dr. Andrew Weaver, Dr. Ted Scambos both IPCC lead writers, Sheila Watt Cloutier (Inuit Advocate) and Børge Ousland (Norwegian explorer).

Coming at a whopping 7.9 pounds, this volume was made carbon neutral by Climate Partners. Says Sebastian: “I am very proud of this book. It is my most accomplished work. It is a visual tour of a part of the world that hardly anyone has ever witnessed”.

The book is released globally by the TeNeues Publishing, and will be available in international markets from Fall 2015.

Sebastian Copeland’s North Pole documentary made the coveted Video Librarian’s Top 25 Documentaries List for 2013 alongside Searching For Sugarman and We Steal Secrets: The Story Of Wikileaks. 

Into The Cold–A Journey Of The Soul (2011) retraces two men’s journey on foot to the North Pole to commemorate Admiral’s Peary’s centennial reach in 1909. Directed by Sebastian Copeland, the film premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival and is now playing on Netfilx in the US, and is available with a special limited edition DVD on this website.

Sebastian and SEDNA Foundation win the prestigious 2014 Good Design Award

GOOD DESIGN™ was founded in Chicago in 1950 by Eero Saarinen, Charles and Ray Eames, and Edgar Kaufmann, Jr. to promote and foster a greater public understanding and acceptance for Modern Design.

The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies and The Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design selected Sebastian and the SEDNA Foundation among hundreds of submissions from around the world.

The Green Good Design identifies and emphasizes the world’s most important firms and leaders forwarding a new emphasis on ecology, sustainable design and the environment worldwide.

Recent previous recipients include: the Kingdom of Sweden, the City of Madrid, Architecture for Humanity, and numerous international manufacturers from BMW to Mercedes-Benz.

Into The Cold at The Annenberg Space for Photography

SEBASTIAN RETURNS TO THE ANNENBERG SPACE FOR PHOTOGRAPHY FOR INTO THE COLD

On May 8th, The Annenberg Space for Photography in Los Angeles screened Sebastian’s North Pole epic documentary about his 2009 mission. The screening, a part of the Annenberg’s Iris Nights,  played to a sold out audience at the Skylight studio. The screening was followed by a Q&A and was reported in this article posted by Liz Kelly for Examiner.com. This was Sebastian’s second presentation at the Annenberg this year. In February, a full presentation of his photographic and advocacy work in the polar regions was attended also by a sold out audience, and can be viewed here.

Sebastian Profiled in the LA Review of Books

Sebastian Appears on Servus TV to Promote Across The Ice

Sebastian Appears on Red Bull’s Servus TV

On March 5th, 2014 Sebastian appeared on Servus TV’s Sport&Talk to promote his new film Across The Ice–The Greenland Victory March which premiered March 5. Joining him in the studios in Salzburg, Austria was F1 racing legend Nicky Lauda.  Sebastian also appeared on the morning show Servus Morgen on March 6th. The film will play again on Servus AM TV Sunday March 9th at 3PM before rolling out to international distribution later in the year.

Into The Cold now available on Netflix

As of November, Sebastian’s North Pole adventure film, Into The Cold–A Journey of the Soulcan be seen on demand on Netflix. The film chronicles Sebastian and partner Keith Heger’s centennial reach of the North Pole to commemorate Admiral Peary and team’s 1909 mission. The film premiered at the 2010 Tribeca Film Festival and went on to win multiple awards internationally. The Hollywood Reporter called it one of the five Must-See-Films of the festival. It has been released internationally since.

Gagosian Gallery and Sebastian Copeland Join forces for the NRDC

The Gagosian Gallery in Berverly Hills teamed up with Sebastian for a special showing of his polar images to benefit the environmental non-profit the NRDC. The gallery show highlighted the threatened polar environment while 100% of the sales went to the NRDC for their advocacy campaigns on climate change.

Joel Reynolds, Western director of the NRDC, gave a short talk about the organization’s work, and Sebastian, a long time board member of the NGO Global Green USA  shared his experiences shooting in the polar regions, and their significance to the health of the planet.

A special limited NRDC edition of 3 was created for this occasion. The image below sold out of its edition. It remains available for private sale in two different sizes.
